From lack of proper protection, to exhaustion from increased hours, the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a large toll on nurses. However, the efforts of healthcare workers to provide care while risking their own health have not gone unnoticed. People all over the world are coming together to show healthcare professionals how grateful they are for those working on the front lines. We’ve rounded up some of the most uplifting celebrations of healthcare workers around the globe to bring a little positivity to your day.
Nightly across Spain, residents are gathering (at a safe distance of at least 6 feet) to show their appreciation for nurses and doctors. Cheers, whistles, and horns can be heard sending positivity and support to local nurses.
Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo took to Instagram to express her gratitude for nurses and healthcare workers treating those affected by coronavirus. She’s not a real doctor, but she plays one on TV and she’s no stranger to the impact nurses have in the healthcare system. Checking her own privilege, Pompeo praised the healthcare workers who don’t have the luxury to stay at home and avoid the virus.
We’re just learning that apparently everyone in Europe has a balcony, but Italians put theirs to good use with a mass sing-along. On Saturday, a round of applause rang out for nurses and doctors facing the pandemic head-on.
Thousands are adding their signatures to a letter thanking nurses for their service. Though a small gesture, people are using whatever means they can to tell healthcare professionals that their courage and selflessness are seen and valued.
Healthcare workers around the Netherlands have noticed banners with encouraging messages being hung near their hospitals. A sign spotted outside a pediatric ICU in Nijmegen read, “Thank you for your commitment! Nijmegen stands behind you!”
