Assist the DON in maintaining the standards of resident care, and staff
development. Assist the DON in establishing policies, and interpreting
according to the standards of nursing practice.


The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be
construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and

* Assist the DON in administration of policies and procedures of the Health Center Department.
* Assist the DON in planning, organizing, and supervising the Health Center Department around the clock in order to insure competent nursing care

for the residents.

* Assist or maintain an active staff development program.
* Provide education, training and competency evaluation for nursing staff.
* Conduct resident assessments/observations and advises the DON of concerns related to resident care.
* Monitors the resident medical and nursing history for completeness and inclusion in the medical record.
* Monitors MDS assessments and care plans for updating as needed.
* Participate in resident care conference meeting.
* Serves as the Infection Preventionist (IP) and oversees the infection prevention and control and antibiotic stewardship programs.
* Participates in QAA.
* Establishes and maintains good public relations.
* Assists the DON to maintain the standards of care.
* Participates in the “on-call” rotation
* Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.


* Directly supervises employees in the Health Center. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and

applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training
employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;
rewarding and disciplining employees

Educational Requirements and Experience:

* Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
* Registered Nurse with a current license in good standing.
* Three years experience in long-term care preferred.
* Previous management experience preferred.
* Knowledgeable of standards of care and practices applicable to the delivery of geriatric services, complex medical conditions, multiple medical

diagnoses, including preventive measures, rehabilitation, and promoting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Language Ability:

o Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, speaking the
primary language of the residents.
o Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,
professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
o Ability to read and interpret physician orders, reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals.
o Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from
managers, physicians, residents, and the general public.

* Mathematical Skills:

o Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dosages, fluid intake &
output, accurate measurements, proportions, percentages, area,
circumference, and volume.
o Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry as needed to the
delivery of medical services.

* Cognitive Demands:

o Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
o Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
diagram, or schedule form.

* Computer Skills:

o Ability to use Microsoft Windows, including Word and Excel. Ability to use
email and the Internet.

* Works primarily indoors in a climate-controlled setting.
* Team Members may be exposed to blood and/or body fluids with potential exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.
* Possible exposure to unpleasant odors.
* Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the SDS Manual.
* Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to

regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds independently and up to 190 pounds
with assistance of a second employee and/or mechanical devices. Must be

required to lift greater than 190 pounds with the assistance of additional
staff and/or a mechanical lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision
and depth perception.
