SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Preop/PACU Manager has operational
responsibilities for Patient Assessment Testing, Post Anesthesia Care Unit
(PACU) and Preop Holding. Coordinates care for pediatric, adolescent,
geriatric patients through the use of the nursing process; responsible for
assuring that each patient is assessed, monitored, and reassessed per accepted
standards to facilitate a positive patient outcome. Each plan of care will
include but not limited to patient and family education and discharge
instructions. Works cooperatively with ancillary departments and other
clinical team personnel in maintaining the standards for professional nursing
practice. Participates in nursing policy implementation; represents patient
and staff needs to the CCO/CNO and acts as a resource for unit staff. Assists
in the assignment of personnel, the coordination of Preoperative process from
scheduling, to Patient Assessment Testing, to patient Recovery and oversees
Preoperative chart auditing process, Preop holding, and PACU per AORN and
ASPAN standards, and responsible for the orientation and education of unit
personnel. Assists in the collection of data for Performance Improvement
activities. Serves on committees per the direction of the CCO/CNO. These
functions are carried out according to Wise Health System policy, mission
statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing. Demonstrates
knowledge base and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the
condition and age of the patients served. The nurse must demonstrate
familiarity with the principles of growth and development throughout the life
cycle. The nurse must be able to assimilate basic knowledge and patient
related data to perform a comprehensive and age appropriate assessment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Operationally, collaborates with the
Director/Assistant Director of Surgical Services in Decatur and Preop/PACU
Manager at Parkway with direct report to the site CCO/CNO

REQUIREMENTS: 1. Possess current licensure to practice nursing in Texas 2.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Preoperative setting 3. Must be certified in
BCLS, ACLS and PALS 4. ASPAN or CCRN preferred
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire.

New hires will have 60 days to obtain BCLS, ACLS and PALS certifications. New
hires will not independently care for an adult patient without current ACLS &
BCLS certification. New Hires will not independently care for a pediatric
patient without current PALS & BCLS certification.

OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE: There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or
skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills
splashes during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be
observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those
tasks likely to cause exposure.

Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal,
State, and Wise Health System policy.
