Any advice for a new grad in Ga trying to get a job in labor and delivery? I did complete my preceptorship on an L&D floor but still no luck. Is it something I'm doing wrong?

Try and find a residency program for new grads. I have only done L&D and started that way. Otherwise they want 2 years minimum experience. It was great though! The one I was in was called Versant. It combined some class time and hands-on time as a new nurse and was 6 month program I believe. Then you are still on orientation (on your unit) for a little bit after. Best of luck! Also, use any “ins” you may have at a hospital- who do you know that works somewhere? Ask them about positions and have them refer you to their managers/HR.

As a long time now retired L&D nurse, I can tell u we love our job and usually retire in the field so positions are hard to come by. Plus it requires extensive training on how to read fetal monitors because you are caring for 2 patients ( mom and baby) with every once. You must also understand all the things that can go wrong and how to react to emergent situations

You aren’t doing anything wrong. Get some experience in med-surg nursing and reapply to L&D in a year, some specialty areas want to wait until you’ve built a foundation of med-surg nursing before they will hire you.

Be open to other areas at the start of your career. Build your foundational skills and experience. Then look for opportunities in the area you are most interested in. You are often able to transfer or participate in a transition to practice programs at hospitals.
