I am finishing up my last semester before my clinical rotations, I am looking to jump into the ER, I will move I just want a higher trauma level so I can get more experience for flight nurse or NP school. Any Advice?

You might try to challange the EMT Lic exam and ride the ambulance as EMT working under paramedic. Great exposure to trauma hands on. I was a paramedic for many years. Gave me quick assessment skills and knowledge.

Most trauma centers are associated with larger hospital systems and have new graduate programs. Look for a good new grad program that is not only going to put you in the environment but ALSO EDUCATE you. The education portion is so very important because nursing school teaches you the basics, only! Specializing immediately out of school is hard but making sure you have a supportive program to back your growth will ensure you are successful!

I second the previous poster regarding a high acuity ICU if you want Flight Nursing unless you get into a Trauma One level ER (like Harbor View in Seattle or

If you are wanting to fly, I recommend getting into a trauma ICU. Working your way up to the trauma zone in an ED can take years.

Best to get some experience before diving in. Can be a big challenge if you have no critical care experience
