Currently in the process of negotiating an offer for a permanent position (night shift charge RN, Med Surg). In your experience, how much more per hour should a charge make compared to floor staff?

Most establishments only give a dollar more an hour, if you're lucky! However, in a perfect world at least 10 dollars more an hour would be a good starting point to negotiate, give or take 5 extra dollars. If this is a true permanent Charge position, in which you won't work as a floor staff or get floated from time to time then 10 to 15 dollars more is a good idea. Now, I would also ask if you will be required to take patients. Some do some don't, it's up to the establishment. Remember, as a charge RN you're responsible for all fellow nurses and patients on your unit for your given shift, along with this, if you're required to take patients, shift diffs, experience, etc., should be considered as a whole. Reinforcing all of this during negotiations could help when mentioning it all to the person hiring you. Thus, reinforcing YOUR requirements for taking the position. Hopefully this helps along with any others that may come across this post. Good luck!
