What should I do? I’m planing to become a Thoracic Surgeon. I am currently a high school student taking health science 3 and enrolling for clinical nursing the following year. Is this a good choice? What school should i go to after i graduate?

Are you enrolling for clinical nursing to get more exposure to patients and medical settings or are you unsure about your career choice? If you are certain MD/Surgeon is for you, I would continue on the college prep/pre-med path.

You need to go to med school, not nursing school. Becoming a thoracic surgeon will take about 8 years, med school, then surgery, then specialty. Do not go to nursing school first

If your goal is to become a surgeon , why go to nursing school? Nursing has nothing to do with becoming a surgeon . Take college prep courses.

If you want exposure to the hospital, maybe volunteering is a good choice. I've worked with many volunteers over the years who were working their way through med school. You're going to have PLENTY of college to get through to try to become a surgeon. I wouldn't add any more years of training to be a nurse if you're on the path to MD.

Hi, are there pre-med courses available? If not, I think courses in anatomy and physiology, chemistry and bacteriology would be more appropriate.
