For South Cali RN (New grads & /or 2 years experience, no acute care experience) what does the rate looks like if you’re starting acute care on either a Med-Sug or Tele unit? Thank you

University of California hospitals (in SoCal) salaries range from around $53/hr for no experience to around $73-$80/hr for 20+ years experience. More in northern CA (UCSF is $76-103/hr, depending on experience). Rate is same whether you work med surg or ICU. These are Union hospitals.

When I first started in a hospital on a tele unit, I had 9 months of corrections experience. Because I wasn't "technically" a new nurse, I was able to start as a per diem nurse. At the time, I was still working full-time in corrections (3-4 days a week, 12 hours shifts) so I needed to get my experience in the hospital on a part-time/per diem basis.

Also, I had about 7 years of CNA experience in acute care settings under my belt, which I used to my advantage when I applied. With all of this (prior RN experience, per diem status, CNA experience, etc), I started on my tele unit @ $49/hr.
