I am a new RN relocating to Freeport, Texas. I am having a hard time finding a job that doesn't require hospital experience. What do I need to do?
Maybe start off with home care or a nursing home (im east coast but there seem to be a lot of jobs in those fields) Get a certification or 2 in something that interests u- it beefs up your resume too- there is no nursing shortage!!
As new grad it’s hard to get a job in hospital. Why don’t you try other settings. Maybe nursing home/rehabs. They will train you. Get the experience then apply to the hospital.
Most hospitals are desperate. Back in the day they had mentorship programs for the nurse without experience. Just ask
That's going to be a tough one! I would look to see if there are any programs that offer internships or residency programs. Larger teaching hospitals are more likely to have these. Without any experience, you're basically asking the hospital to take on training you. That's not a short or inexpensive process. Due to the past 2 years, hospitals are having to be incredibly budget conscience and anyone with experience will absolutely be favored over someone without. That being said, it will be up to you to seek out mentors and possible situations where additional experience can be had, like the residency programs. You may need to commit to working for them for minimum amount of time if they are willing to do that level of training, since it would be a significant expense outlay for them. (salary, benefits, etc.). They will be very partial to someone who they can orient to their unit and facility for 2-4 weeks or so, depending on their requirements, rather than 8-12 weeks, when they need staff now .. not 3-4 months from now. I hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck!
