How do i get critical care certification if i have not worked in icu yet?

First, technically, CCRN-K has its own requirement, but they can be very flexible. You can take CCRN-K before you have 2000 hrs, it is an academically preferred. Second, if you looking for a chance, don’t bend for a compromise. Go hunt for an ICU job.

You have to have 2000 hrs in ICU. PCU will work also. Then you are eligible to attempt CCRN.

When I graduated from Nursing School (BSN) I took a three month Coronary/Critical Care Course which certified me to work in ICU. Check w/ the hospital that you would like to work for. They may offer something similar to this. You will need your BLS, ACLS & PALS certifications to work also.
