Possibly look for a teaching hospital or one that has in internship program. Learn some fetal monitoring or take a few on line OB CEUs. When going for an interview show your passion

I had to work in a small town hurting for l and d nurses and willing to train. It also helps to have your foot in the door at the hospital. I hope you get to go where you want and find it as rewarding as you think it will be.

Try and get into a training hospital. I know Kaiser does a lot of new to specialty training. I started as an ICU nurse at UCLA and transferred to a women’s health training program but that was 10 years ago. I have been a L&D nurse ever since. But I have been doing travel contracts for the last 4 years and a lot of Kaiser contracts and they are constantly hiring new to specialty nurses and training them. Otherwise, only small hospitals that are very understaffed and in desperate need of nurses hire and train in my experience but it’s not always the best environment for new to specialty nurses in my opinion. They just don’t have the support that is needed.
