How hard is it to switch specialties with no experience in desired area? My background is ortho/ M/S but I don’t want ortho I want to look into women’s health, couplet care, or even holistic nursing (even if I need a certification).

I switched from Med/Surg to Mother/Baby a few years ago. Although I had a lot of prior experience in Women’s Health, it wasn’t specifically in MB. I was surprised to find that the majority of my coworkers had backgrounds in Med/Surg as well.

We have a special program for nurses with no prior L&D experience or new grads. Also your orientation and training is several months. Whatever you want to transition to , show your passion for that field

It’s not hard to transition. Just apply in your current hospital if they have a transition to practice program. If not look for one elsewhere. I transitioned 7yrs ago to LDR. If your looking for mother baby just apply. There is generally no transition to practice for that.
