How do I get into peri-operative nursing after one year at the bedside? I work on a high acuity step-down unit and am moving to Boston this summer. All the OR positions require 1+ year experience, is there any sort of training program?

I work in Richmond VA. It is usually best to go directly to a hospitals website under careers, or through your intranet if you want internal. There is a great need for peri-op nurses and most hospitals offer a “nurse residency “ or “OR intern” program & the job will be listed as such. If you like your hospital inquire through HR if they have those opportunities. Best of luck

Many hospitals have internship/residency/training programs available. This are has many hospitals, look at each one. They begin at certain times of the year, applications have deadline dates. Start dates are also in stone. These programs offer classes and hands on training. At your interview tell them THIS is what you are passionate about abs THIS is what you want. Can’t be passive at all. You’re in like flynn.

Apply at teaching hospitals, this is the best way to go. You will see things there that you may not see at other places. Once you get the experience, you can pretty much write your ticket to working anywhere as OR nurses are always in demand. Good luck.

AORN ( Association of Operating Room Nurses )
Has Perioperative 101 which I took at my community college. They also offered it at the hospital where I was hired even before I finished my community college class.
Look online at the AORN website I’m sure you can find what you need
