For travel nurses, do you rent or use your own car?

January 1st, 2023

Did couple of travel nurse contracts, some close to home and some across the country. I used my own car if the distance was manageable. If not, I tended to just rent a car, but the cost was very expensive.

I lived in PA towards the east coast, and one of my contract was 8 hours away. For this specific contract, I just drove my own car and stayed at an hotel during my contract.

Had a contract in Cali, I ended up renting a car in L.A. It was about $1500 a month for the lowest tier, mostly due to insurance. If your insurance company is able to cover rental car insurance, then it's much more affordable.

You might be able to ask for a raise in stipends for travel expenses to your agency.
