What are the best positions for new nursing grads at hospitals? Almost everything I've found requires 1-2 years of experience, but how am I supposed to get that experience without being hired first? Still searching for a job!

The best career for nursing new grads is the career you find most suitable for you, the specialty you’re interested in. I too had a difficult time finding a first nursing job and settled for a med-surg position because they didn’t require any experience. I wish I would’ve held out and applied for what I wanted.

The truth is that although these postings may say 1-2 years “preferred,” they are open to new grads. You won’t know until you try and apply. That being said, I don’t regret my med-surg experience. It helped me become who I am today and I realized what I loved, so if you don’t get lucky and get what you want it’s not the end of the world to try something else.

My last piece of advice is going on linked-in and connecting with recruiters for the hospitals you like. Send them a nice message and ask them if you can send your resume over, along with someone your fields of interest. There’s also organizational job fairs where hospitals will be open to meeting a bunch of people at once. Put yourself out there and good luck

Many hospitals have positions for new grads, look for a hospital with a nurse residency program. I am in the Metro DC (DC, No VA and So MD) area and all of the hospitals are hiring new grads.
