RN for about 6 years now. ER and L&D. Left the hospital due to nights. Took an Ambulatory position (mainly triage) at a women's clinic. I am VERY restless! How do I get back to bedside (days) w/out being bedside for a year? Its been sad and tough..
Nights are rough but lots of time you have to put your time in. Maybe another hospital will have a daytime slot. I liked weekend program.
I don’t believe you will have any trouble returning to bedside; because you have the experience. Some positions however are rotating to nights at hospitals.
I suggest going to your local hospital, and speak to the birthing center manager. Present her with your resume and let her know what you are looking for. At this point you have nothing to lose. I will tell you if she has a day shift position open, typically it will be offered to the night nurse’s first. But most of of nighttime girls are not interested in working days.
A year isn't really too long. You could take a refresher EFM or STABLE course to get back into the swing of things. They will be lucky to have you back!
