For the nurses who are mothers or experienced mothers, is it worth having someone else care for your baby for a per diem night shift position?
Yes it is most definitely worth it. Presumably your baby or child would be sleeping most of that time in the night while as a perdiem nurse you would be maintaining your skills, adding time to your experience level and as a perdiem you would generally be paid a higher rate of pay then a regular staff nurse, and you may also get a shift differential too. As a perdiem you might only be required to work a certain number of days per month so you could work the minimum if that suits you or work more as your needs dictate. In my past experience I was working a full time job but took on a perdiem shift at a different hospital that I worked once a week. The benefit to me was the extra money that helped pay for certain extras for my children. You can certainly try it and see how it goes until you are ready to return either full or part time.
my children are adult , but if I had a young child and no family support to help me with my kid , I would during day while my kid is at school 8 hrs shift . if I had to work longer than 8 hrs I would hire well reputable sitter to care fory kid for that extra 4 hrs til I get home .
