Is it true that experienced nurses work during the day and the new and young nurses during the night?
In general novice nurses in the past worked nights- the trend is changing in order to provide more support!
There are plenty of seasoned nurses who choose the night shift !
Working all 3 shifts gives you experience and appreciation for the unique challenges of a particular shift.
I have to say nights esp Halloween and New Year’s Eve were my favorite !
Not necessarily true, there are some experienced RNs who prefer the night shift for convenience. There are quite a few new nurses who do the night shift for the same reasons. One reason would be child care, while one parent works days and the other works nights, quite a bit of money is saved on childcare. Another reason new nurses work nights is to get a better learning experience.
Not necessarily but I made the mistake of requesting day shift on a Complex Medical floor as a fairly new grad and I had to leave. Cause it was too much. I'm trying to go back to the hospital setting but do nights so I can really understand what I'm doing instead of running around all day in fight or flight.
Not necessarily! It depends a lot on the hospital/hospital needs. A lot of new nurses work night shift to have more time to grasp a work flow/schedule that works for them.
