How are nurses supposed to get experience in different specialities if they all want previous exp
December 31st, 2024
This questioning concern rings bells to me as I too went through this difficult journey. As a grad several years ago, I found myself struggling to get hired in the specialty that was calling my name. It was ICU and/or ER. For ICU, it was required to have a minimum of 2 years ER experience. For ER, it was required to have a minimum of 2 years Med-Surg experience. I didn't want Med-Surg, point blank period! So, I did my research and found myself applying to Nursing Residency or Nursing Fellowship programs which did not and does not require having previous experience.....What a hidden Gem!
Research and knowledge of information is key to not settling as a nurse in a specialty that is not YOUR calling!
