There are some hospitals that offer a type of internship. The new RN is mentored through several areas of the hospital during their 1st years. ER, OB, OR, ER, CCU, ICU, MEd Surg. & etc They can begin to feel more secure & then make a better decision as to where they may better hone their skills.
RN’s “eating their young” has been around for at least 60 years I’m a diploma grad of 1963. I just renewed my license. Why did you want to be a nurse? That is the question you have to ask yourself. Dig deep inside yourself & ask why? You learn more in 6 months than you every learned in school. New RN’s need at least 3-4 weeks of orientation with an RN who LOVES being a nurse & not just for the money.
The PATIENTS will love you. That’s all that counts!
