Can I still administer furosemide if the patient’s blood pressure is 90/60 and the order says to hold it if below 90/60?

Call the prescriber and tell him/her you areright on the line with that B/P and document your call and their response no matter what it is! If they advise administering, I would monitor the patient very closely.

Wait 10-15 min. and re-check BP. You’re sure to either get a lower reading giving you better cover for holding the med, or you’ll get a higher reading, and can give the med. In any case, chart both readings, and remind pt not to get out bed s help. Monitor VS throughout shift. If you hold the med on that 2nd reading being below parameters, consider calling doctor.
