Asking for a friend She received 2 hospital offers, mother baby unit and endoscopy Which one has a better career outlook in future? Easier to look for a job, better pay, less stressful. Can she go to mother baby after few yrs at Endo, visa versa?

I agree with the first poster about more career opportunities going the MB route. I transitioned to NICU after a year and its a higher paying position because it’s critical care vs. “Med-surg” nursing which is what most hospitals classify the MB floor as in pay grades. You have opportunities for overtime if you are looking to make more money as well. My two thoughts about Endo are that it usually is much less stressful and that the schedule is much better. I had to do a rotation in Endo and it was a great position for working moms and a lot of the Rns who were close to retirement but still wanted to work transferred there or to Ambulatory Infusion. Holidays and Weekends off. No night shift. And they also had the perk of drug reps always bringing fabulous catered lunches in. Seemed like a dream but I loved MB and I love NICU because of the patients.

Go to Mother Baby. It may appear to be the more complex and difficult choice but it has better options over a longer period of time including increased clinical experience and quality improvement opportunities. They will get paid more over time and also can consult after a few years. Endo is also great and can offer less stress. The sky is the limit for nursing. You can go in any direction you choose whenever YOU’RE ready! Take the simple choice right now.

Mom/Baby for sure - it is essentially a specialty Med/Surg unit.

Depends how passionate shout mother baby she is; I started there as a new grsd and have been for 9 years. Unfortunately since we’re forced to take med surg patients now and wr’re soo burnt out I’ve been considering leaving being a staff nurse. It’s a hard decision. Long story short, start OB and if she hates it then go to the more low key position,

Endoscopy, better hours, better pay…mother baby is stressful. And you need to be very physically fit. There is so much running back and forth from the nursery to the floor. I am not over weight and consider myself healthy and I had difficulty with the pace some days. People on MIU can also be jerks. Tell her to take the endoscopy job.

Mother baby. In my experience of all nursing areas, mother baby nurse do not look worn down and their backs are not shot!! This is truth. Your patient weighs maybe ten pounds!! You can bathe that patient in one hand!! Lol. And it’s a great happy time you get to share with these families!! The social environment is superb it’s not sickness and despair snd being overworked snd understaffed on mother baby.

Endo will always be available to change to.
After years in ending most people with think you don’t have enough hands in nursing. So there my input.
