What are some things you’ve learned from older nurses on your unit?

Unfortunately I had a lot of unpleasant experiences with nurses younger than 55 and learned to be wary of them. But nurses 55+ have taught me to watch my back around my peers and don't say too much. Gossip can be horrible in certain places and sometimes it's just better to not engage. Same goes when dealing with patients.

Don’t try and take shortcuts. Learn, get experience and know your patents well. Experienced and older nurses will teach you patience and how to prioritize.
Give them respect.

When popping out narcs ( in Long Term Care,) ALWAYS date/ initial the pocket where the pill was, to prove you gave it. It will save your butt more than hurt it.
