How do you get started in informatics if you do not have any experience?

This answer is going to vary among all organizations. You can speak with someone that is already in the field first or you can directly write or try to call the manager of that department and ask what options you have. For me personally/professionally, I had done a project and became interested and then reached out to a colleague of mine. I applied and was in. Good luck!

You should have your BSN with plans to obtain a MSN. I would advise you to volunteer to be a SuperUser for your documentation system (Cerner, Epic, Meditech…). Ask for a meeting with your current Informaticist. Get her/his opinion on how to beat enter the field. It is your documentation system that you need to fully understand not necessarily how to trouble shoot the computer. Although, you will need to be comfortable with computers. You will also need to understand data and data analytics.

Good luck!

Look for a college on line. And or see if a local healthcare system informatics department would let you follow as an intern.

Seems like you need to find someone in the field to get you in. I have volunteered to do projects to see that can do more than my job title but not rewarded. Frustrating… it’s sometimes not what you know but who you know.
