I have 12 years of acute care nursing experience in step-down telemetry but I want to transition to acute/critical care pediatrics. How can I go about that? I’ve applied several places with no response whatsoever.

Try working for registry and inch your way in to PICU.

maybe start in pediatrics first since they are so much different than adults... gives you a good baseline. Then while you are on the peds floor for a while offer to float to PICU out of turn (if your facility floats peds to PICU) this will help the transition

You might try getting a job in regular pediatrics, then work up to critical care pediatrics.

Just be persistent. I didn’t have experience either, kept pressing, eventually got an interview and got hired. Especially now with the short staffing how can they really turn anyone away. Best of luck
