NICU RN for > 10 years here. Currently experiencing extreme burnout and feelings of, "is this really what the rest of my career looks like?". What can I do with my niche experience outside of the hospital that I won't regret leaving babies for?

Sometimes you just need a change in pace. I left for about 2 years after Covid. 1.5 years in research nursing. Another 8 months doing a full time clinical instructor for nursing students. When I finally felt control of my mental health I went back to bedside. My patients and families now get the best version of me.

There’s home health opportunities for vent-dependent kids, home evaluator for new post-party mom & baby. There’s different levels of care in neonatal. There’s lactation consultant. All these are possible without returning to school for Masters or Doctorate. You could cross-train for Mother-Baby.
There’s options out there-you don’t mention where you’re from, so I can’t speak in specifics.
