12 years RN here, most of it in ER. Burnt out and about to transition to education or Cath lab. Anyone in those two areas enjoy their role?

I've done both the Cath Lab and Education. They are very different. I enjoyed the cath lab but wearing lead caused a bad back injury. Be ready for long days and being on-call. I am currently a nursing educator for a very large outpatient medical group. I use my clinical experience every day and it requires a lot of critical thinking. Having a family, I enjoy the M-F schedule with no holidays. I've been in education for 17 years and plan to finish my career in this area.

Those are 2 opposite ends of the spectrum. Unsure of your location but most Cath Labs you have to take call, which was not desirable to me. With all your years of experience, I would say education for the most normal schedule and sharing your knowledge to others.

Love the cath lab. I say go for it but just along as you're willing to take call. You can also do EP, there's usually no call there.

I worked ICU for 11 and transitioned last year to Endoscopy. I like it a lot. Cath lab was my other choice because I have a strong cardiac background so I say give that a shot!
