Tips to working as a multidisciplinary team with PT/OT/CNA/RT/LPN?

Hi. My suggestion is two part: Know your role and the roles of the other team members. Second tip: show respect to all involved and expect the same from them.

Some people really feel like their toes are stepped on if you try and do their jobs (even if you are just trying to help). It's best to communicate what you did, what the MD ordered you to to do, and what the patient wishes were. Remember you are ultimately responsible for the patient but, let others help you achieve the best care for the patient. PLEASE don't make your tech (CNA) do all the heavy lifting.

Know your scope and do not be afraid to reach out to other disciplines to collaborate within their scope to function as a whole team. It is all about team work. If you have a patient that needs outside agency assistance, volunteer request, final arrangements etc, reach out to your MSW. Other tips working with multidisciplinary team members may be to utilize your team LPN to offload visits that are stable. Good Luck
