What is the schedule as an OR RN in a week? And which is better ? OR or Dept. floor?

I currently work 4 10 hr shifts but we have 8 hr and 12 hr shifts available too so it depends on your hospital. I’m on call 1 night/week and 1 24hr Saturday or Sunday every few weeks or so. Pay is also higher in the OR vs the floor or unit. I do miss patient care/interaction on the floor though.

I work 8 hour shifts but many places have 10 and 12 hour shifts available. I prefer the OR as you only have one patient at a time to care for so they receive 100% of your attention - you are dealing with a bunch of different personalities in a confined space so you need to have a lot of patience. Cutting edge technology means you are always learning.

It depends greatly on where you work! Most OR personnel work 10 or 12hr. shifts in our area. With one night of call during the week and then you are on a rotation for week-end call. In my opinion the OR is better. In the OR you have many chances of getting overtime.
