What careers/jobs are nurses leaving bedside/healthcare for? I am not loving this career but have no idea what direction to move.

December 10th, 2023

I would say ask yourself if it’s working bedside that is the issue. I personally have not worked on the floor in my 18 years as an RN. I went into nursing knowing that was one area I had no interest in working. I have taken a sabbatical for over a year and will be returning to work in hospice as this is a type of nursing I have not done before. The great benefit of being a nurse is you can transfer to a different unit and have a completely different experience. I used to work per diem and I would cross train to different departments within my hospital. I worked Outpatient Pacu/Outpatient OR and would pick up shifts in Interventional Radiology and GI lab. On occasion I would help out in wound care and flu shot clinic. The key is to be open to new experiences and blend in with each unit you visit.

I have also furthered my education thanks to tuition reimbursement. I got by BSN then MSn. I’m now looking at getting my AGPCNP. I am considering getting my Botox certification also as a side gig. Spa nursing is also an option for you. This is the beauty of our career. If you don’t like what you are doing, choose to try something else:).
