Is it hard to get a job if you aren’t a new grad? I graduated over a year ago (BSN).I will be taking the NCLEX this month. I would love to work at a hospital but I keep hearing it’s very difficult for me to get hired if I have no previous experience.
Some Acute Care Hospital’s offer a New Grad/Preceptor Program particularly due to the staffing challenges faced among health care workers.
It’s rough if you have no experience. It’s also rough even if you have experience. Try to look for hospitals that have a training program. The hospital I used to work for had a program called Versant. You are hired as a RN but you are also a student getting trained in the hospital. It’s like an internship. A lot of hospital systems have something like this going on.
It is very very rough let me tell you. As a new grad I was getting looked over because lack of experience, even from residency programs who were looking to hire from within or former cna or pct first! Now that I have some experience (a year and a half) it is still very difficult. I recently moved due to military spouse, and was not able to have a full year at bedside. This hurt me. My next job in a new state was not the right fit, and then my next job was outpatient. I am trying to get back into bedside, and although I am a BSN with some experience, it's still not enough.
