I'm a nurse transitioning back to bedside nursing after taking off two years. Is it possible to do travel nursing? I have two years of Medical Surgical experience (2015-2017), and four months of PCU (2020). PCU was a temporary position.

It all depends on your personal level of confidence. When you travel, you can sometimes feel like you've been thrown to the wolves! There is little to no orientation as they expect you to get there and go! I'd say 2 years away from bedside with only 2 years experience is not sufficient in most cases. I'd suggest a few more years experience & start with a facility that will give you a decent orientation.
If you push yourself beyond your limits, you could open yourself up to legal issues.

I mean I haven’t had luck trying to return to bedside even during the pandemic which seems a little crazy to me since I have the experience but technically I haven’t worked the floor since about 2016. I have experience literally in just about every adult acute care setting even palliative care. I haven’t really done psych even tho everyone is kinda psych anyway and I haven’t done pediatrics or L&D. I don’t understand why it’s an issue if I’m nutty enough to come back to bedside. Everyone goes through basic orientation… and the new grads right now bless their hearts but they haven’t touched a human even for clinical so who would u rather take care of you? I feel like it’s a bicycle I never forgot how to ride… yea so long story short every agency that reached out or I spoke to didn’t pursue further because they want 2 years RECENT experience. Good luck on your journey!

Employers usually require you to have more experience on the clinical arena. The best would be to have 5 years minimum of clinical experience, however you might be able to find employment with two years of experience on a nursing specialty. Good luck!

You have to have your clinical hospital experience within the last year or 2.
