Why is it so hard for nurse over 50 to get a job. We come with years of experience and commitment. Age shouldn’t matter
I'm sorry if you are experiencing a hard time find a position. In my experience, many places won't hire seasoned nurses because they can't afford them, nothing to do with their age. Be honest in interviews letting them know while you come with experience you understand a new position means you are low man on the totem pole and may not be paid what you are used to. This may help. Good luck.
I’m close to 50 and the reason I keep getting turned down is for lack of education. I graduated from a diploma program years ago and everyone now wants a BSN. I’m part time and most facilities require full time to qualify for tuition reimbursement. My son is in college this year and my daughter 11th gr so getting my BSN without tuition assistance is difficult.
I'm over 50, and I have a lot of offers. I don't think it should matter as long as you're physically and mentally equipped to do the job. Seasoned nurses consider an asset to the company because they come with knowledge and experience that can prevent some errors, such as procedural protocols and medication administration errors and they can serve as a resource nurse for the new nurses.
