Making a shift from pre-op/PACU charge to Pre-op/PACU Manager. I have no clue what to ask for in terms of compensation. Changing from hourly to salary. Any advice?

Salaried Manager of Pre-op PACU—I think I’d ask for at least $15,000 above what you make now, if not more.

Depends on the size of your facility. However, the job has a min and max range set by the company and HR knows what that is. I am guessing that they asked you to submit what you want for compensation. This is a great HR tactic to get you cheap. Don't fall for it. If they are promoting you they already have a number and wanting to see if you will ask for less. As we always do, so we don't seem greedy. Your 8-hour paid day will really be 10-hours. The overtime pay, shift diff, and holiday pay...all gone. Get a print out of your hours for the year. This will give you the high and low months, days off, etc and OT you put in. Look at your W-2 for your gross. Gross salary/ total hours worked will give you what your hourly (gross) wage really was. At that point, have them tell you the minimum salary level for the job or make you an offer. Then, you can compare. Best Wishes and Congratulations on the new position.

If it is in NorCal $180K. If SoCal $145-160K plus sign on of $10-15K (which is taxed at 40%). Anywhere else in the country $110K with experience and 5 years experience managing people.

I make at least 10 hours OT every 2 weeks. Usually more. I would look at last year’s gross pay and ask for 20,000 more for a salaried position that will be at least 90-100 hours per week

You are coming into a position with experience, but there is alot more you are responsible for. Minimum $25K higher plus 15% raise above the $25K. I have been in a management roll and never will do it again.
Good Luck!

I just watched my friend do this. Make sure the organization supports middle management. I have seen an organization who abuses middle managers causing them to be overworked and receive very poor compensation for the work done and responsibility accepted. Middle managers often make less money than staff because they are salaried, work more hours and cannot be paid overtime or call money. Ask questions.

I would request $90,000 annual salary
