With ER experience, you can pretty much work anywhere: rehab, home health, gastro, ob/gyn, step-down, case management, or continue education and get your MSN, then maybe go into management

I agree with all the people saying PACU! I have been per diem in the PACU for about a year now, and still currently work full time in the ED. PACU is great because you still have that petient turn over, but you only get 2 at a time because PACU is held to ICU ratio standards, and they usually WAY more pleasant than the ED, lol.

Occupational Health is a great place where you can leverage your ER skills but also learn new and interesting things from a health and safety standpoint. There are so many areas one can work to include federal/state government facilities , stand alone clinics, private businesses/corporations etc. I spent the last 15 years in Occ Health (former ER nurse) and have loved it.

If you have an ER background and you are seeking a change of pace then Urgent Care is the answer! I think Urgent care is the natural transition as you still see your fast track type of patients you would see in the ER that were non-invasive and not critical. While ordering single limb x-rays, doing ear lavages and suture removals, it still calls for the daily triage of patients, consultation with the providers and the transfer of care for the patients that need it due to the limitationsof the facilityand its resources. All in a very controlled environment. This is the simplest transition for that change of pace one might be looking for. Some even say this is where nurses go to retire. Hope this helps with the vision and happy nursing!

I would say critical care units. There are specific units for critical care if you favor one patient population over others.
If you want something more slow pace then OR is a favorite of mine.
