Highly dependent on what area you work in. I’m in a peds CVICU. Typical day -
-shift huddle
-take report (1:1 critical/unstable, 2:1 critical/stable)
-quick look at kid(s), say hi to parents if they’re there
-plan my day out - write out meds, procedures, specific tasks, lab results & any that need to be done (hep levels, blood gas)
-first big assessment and med pass
-chart big assessments
-rest of the day depends on meds, interventions, trips to imaging, etc.
Lots of monitoring, charting, meds, labs, and managing central lines. Occasional bedside procedure - chest closure, chest washout, intubate/extubate, PICC placement.
No clue what outpatient or acute care/step down floors look like so I hope someone else chimes in!
