Hello as a nurse of Color in the nursing field as well as nursing management at this point I’ve learned this! We first as women lead with emotion and I teach my daughters one being a young police women.. lead every decision based on logic and don’t approach from your emotional point of view. ( hence “with an attitude “) my attitude is present in my Walk, my presence when I enter a room, and my non emotional response that sometimes results in silence which Ive taught women in my field… let them kill themselves with your silence. So, long story short you have worked way to hard to be the woman of color with an attitude… learn your power is in intelligence let it shine, and your control will be your power until you shine brighter than the rest! Shine but learn to control your environment! Teach them to adjust to your power, and not the opposite because your narrative is yours !

I have worked with outstanding male and female nurses of various races and color. I found them extremely intelligent and good people. In my humble opinion I think our current political climate is making a lot of us divisive. There are good and bad in every race. No need for attitude in healthcare. People want compassionate, competent nurses when they are in need of healthcare.

I challenged racism in the work place many times without any change . This has impacted my nursing career and my well-being as a professional black female with an accent.

God’s word calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves, so if you are speaking truth in love, and you set the example with your actions and words, then keep doing what you are doing. Be the example of equality and reconciliation, and fair treatment for all.
