I’m an ICU nurse of 8.5 years, primarily working at level one trauma centers. I’m trying to transition into becoming a clinical documentation specialist. Most jobs are looking for people with experience. How can I land a position in this field? Thx!

I would start with doing getting your CCDS certification. This will help get your foot in the door. A lot of companies look for that. It’s a good introduction into the field as well.

I believe you need to already be working in the role to qualify for the certification. I’d recommend getting your resume professionally written and ask that the writer emphasize your previous work with EHR and any informatics experience you may already have.
