How do I tell an employer neuro was not the right fit for me in a positive way that also isn’t applicable to other floors?
Be VERY specific about why neurology isn't a good fit for you. And be aware that a ribbon of similarity runs through all nursing units. You will encounter comatose people on medical units, people who have expressive and receptive aphasia on surgical units, people with projectile vomiting, people who have paralysis, people with dementia on every unit I can think of. If lifting and turning constantly is an issue due to helpless patients who have had strokes and cannot move themselves, and if you have a back (or other) physical problem that makes dealing with totally helpless patients seriously difficult for you, then say that. If you can't handle these patients, it's also dangerous for them. If there is a specific kind of patient you really cannot work with, first ask yourself why and be gut-honest. Then research where you might not encounter patients of this nature. But expect your present employer to want specific reasons that you feel neurology is not a good fit. Also, how long have your worked on that service? If it's under a year, be aware that many employers do not permit transfers from one floor to another.
