I have been at my hospital for 2 years on a medsurg/tele/stroke unit and have a passion for L&D However, my hospital only offers ICU or OR for now, as they are expanding. Will OR nursing help or hurt me for future internal L&D opportunities?

OR will definitely be a plus - back when I first started L& D it was hard to get your foot in the door. I did critical care right out of school and it taught me a LOT. After a few years I wanted to do something different and not the same ol thing so finally got into L& D where I could labor and deliver but also circulate the OR which I really loved but didn’t want to be in the OR all the time so it worked out for me. You have to have a poker face when dealing with the family drama, and it has its sad times (fetal demises) but I loved it. I stepped out in 2019 due to breast cancer or I’d still be on the floor.
