What would an experienced RN that has been out of acute care need to do in order to be considered for reentry? Do hospitals hire nurses that have been out of the hospital for more than 5 years?

Have a pulse! You would be an excellent hire in an industry that is struggling to retain good caregivers! You will catch up on any new tech or policies quickly. Having graduated 3 years ago with my BSN, it became obvious to me that I learned everything I needed to know on the job. My state requires a certain number of continuing education to renew my license so you’ll always be learning new things.

Get some experience in Long Term care. It doesn't have to be forever. Community Health won't get you where you want to go. Keep trying. Those of us who are the end of the Baby Boomers are leaving acute care and Nursing altogether. There are openings. Prove that you are serious and valuable.
