What should I do if I got let go of during Nursing orientation? I am a new nurse with one year of skilled nursing experience and was on a PCU or stepdown unit in the hospital on orientation for 4 months.
Did you feel uncomfortable when working at the PCU? And if so, why? Seems like its not the best fit at this time.
Perhaps more time on the unit where you were would better prepare you to move to another area? I believe I worked 2 years at one floor at the hospital before I moved to another unit when I first became a nurse.
I did an internship at an ICU when I first got out of college and I felt unprepared to do the job. I needed the experience of the regular med/surg and cardiac floors to gain experience and confidence; glad thats what I did. Also, I feel the right preceptor can make a world of difference. I pray that God lead you in what to do in Jesus name. ๐๐ป
Reflecting on the feedback you received from your preceptor, Charge Nurse or the unit manager and your peer group must be taken seriously. They need a team player, someone who will fit in the position and deliver the best possible care to the patients. Be prepared to accept positive and negative criticisms. Your growth depends on your acceptance for corrective actions. Remember, patients lives are in our hands and they must be taken seriously. Be open to asking questions. Good luck.
ask if you can work a lower ranking position for later on possible job promotion options or job transfer
Can you be more specific on the word "do" in that question?
The best recommendation is to think about the feedback you received during the orientation process. Reflecting on this feedback may give you insight into the reason you were not successful on the PCU/Stepdown unit.
