Do any nurses PREFER the night shift?

August 3rd, 2022

Before I got married and had kids, yes. I always thought myself a night owl. Now that I have two little kids, I'd much rather do days. That way I can come home and spend time with my little ones.

Nights work for us. Our kids are grown and gone. So if we are tired we sleep. My husband has worked nights for years and will never go to days!!! We can have the same schedule. I like it. We have an awesome ED night team at work right now. Plus the differentials add up. I do prefer nights for where we are now. It would not have worked for us raising kids. Just depends.

Yes. I'm not a day time person at all, so 7p-7a is 😍

There are perks to night shift and that's why most people would prefer it. Outside of monetary perks, ease of continuing education, and not having suits around, the only people I know who prefer nights are those who are night owls. It's a lot of work trying to balance life and work when you are asleep when most people are working/awake and vice versa. I have done both day shift, night shift, and afternoon shifts (when I was in areas that still have 8 hour shifts). As a mom of 3 children (13, 4, and 2) I prefer days but tend to pick up night shifts here and there to help out as it's a nice change of pace. Hope that helps a little!
