How do I transition from dialysis to a hospital job or another specialty? I have been working in dialysis for over 10 years, first as a technician, then LVN, and now, as an RN. I have only been working as a Dialysis RN for about 5 months.
O was in the same situating. Just adult & at the interview explain you'll need more training, but you're super excited to learn new things. With the right attitude & mindset, they'll hire you. Good luck!
If you are a new RN with less than 1 year of experience, you can apply at a hospital with a nurse residency program. This gives you the training. But make sure to ask about including your past experience as a tech amd then LVN. I was a scrub tech for 20 years before becoming a nurse and my employer bumped up my pay for the experience as a scrub tech.
Apply and during interview ask about training. Start in medical or surgical floor. You learn a lot. This is an opportunity to advance your assessment skills, critical thinking and time management. Always ask yourself why. Its important to understand what you are doing to and for your patient. Understand your drugs. Keep some sort of drug reference with you. Learn as much as you can everyday. Good luck.
Hospice and home health is a nursing speciality that is rewarding, autonomous and ready to take new to the field nurses.
