As a new RN, how do I handle an experienced LPN that frequently undermines and embarrasses me in front of patients and co-workers?

Talk to HR. The person has a professionalism issue. I don’t care how experienced a nurse is, no need to embarrass someone in front of their peers. Gotta stand your ground and take action.

There are very smart LVN’s out there. So I don’t think one title is better than the other, we are all out doing the same work. Now of course there are things LVN’s can’t do that only RN’s can but typically they will stray away from giving them those assignments. I think this is more of a professionalism problem. I would pull her or him aside and let them know how they are making you feel. It may be uncomfortable but sometimes they don’t even know they are doing it. Or you can repeat what they are saying back to them so they will be aware of how they sound.
