Can I switch from cardiac tele to labor and delivery as a new grad with 3 months of experience? I am very unhappy in my position, but I'm worried I'll look like I have bad work ethic for quitting my first job so soon.
I worked med surg as a new grad for 6 months but knew I wanted to change units at my same hospital. I emailed the director of the mother baby unit and asked to shadow and got to know some of the nurses on the unit. I decided I wanted to transfer. I let my current boss know before I interviewed. Everything went smoothly for me. Be honest with the people you are interviewing for about why you are wanting to leave your current position and why you are passionate about labor and delivery!
Truly it depends on your facility. Most require six months as a new hire before transferring to another unit. If you are looking to change facilities all together, your best bet is to contact the L&D manager where you want to go and ask if they take new grads.
