As a undergrad who isn't in the nursing program yet, and is struggling with chemistry classes. Do you guys as nurses have any advice how to get through it?

By all means get a tutor, preferably one who is in the nursing program already; a chemistry major would also be a good tutor. Go for any extra help sessions your professor offers. If there is such a book as "Chemistry for Dummies" or a simplified text to use adjunctively with your own, get that and start reading. Remind yourself that while this seems far from nursing, you will look at medicines and treatments later and biochemistry of patient diseases and they wil make more sense to you because you have had this class. Finding some aspect of chemistry interesting may also help. We study more easily those subjects we find fascinating, enjoy, or know are the backbones of what we will be doing.

Get a tutor, study as long as it takes, you have to pass it

The only advice I can give is that it takes lots of studying. It's definitely not an easy subject to grasp as it is quite complex, as is microbiology. Throughout nursing school, we formed lots of study groups. We shared with each other different ways we found, such as mnemonics, to help us remember the material. Also, the constant review of the material helped us remember and having a group of friends to review with made the task much less tedious! In fact, it actually made it fun!๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿฉท

Always get the help you need! I had plenty of tutors in college.

Take it online

To study I used flash cards that I made with all the formulas and memorized them; as well as recorded lectures. I would do as many practice test questions as possible for each assigned chapter before tests and joined a study group. The flash cards really helped as Iโ€™m a visual learner. I would say find what method of learning works best for you and get a tutor if needed and never give up, just keep pushing forward.

I took a chemistry class in a community college before I took it at the school I was attending for nursing school.

Attend all classes, sit in the front to help you engage and internalize the concepts, read and read the textbook, memorize and practice what you learned, attend a group study and never cram for a test
