Ive always seen myself in the ER, i have 1+years of experience in Med Surg TELE, and would love a shot at ER! Unable to find any positions available for MST RN to ER RN. Have my ACLS, PALS,and BLS, what would make my resume more appealing?

I transferred from med surg to ER a long time ago. To make your resume more appealing take TNCC and ENPC. I would also speak to the manager of the ER and say you want to transfer down and have applied for a job. You could also ask to come in and shadow or come in and gain more experience on your day off. Usually if working 36 hours a week, you could come in for an extra 4 hours and that wouldn’t put you into over time. There will be no MST to ER just apply for an ER position.

If you are absolutely set on working in the ER find a small local hospital with an ER and apply. Most need ER nurses on the night shift, which is difficult to fill. Don't go for a level 1 trauma center right off. Get a year or two under your belt and then look for a move. For your resume', make sure you indicate that you are comfortable with a fast pace that is never the same thing, and that you can work very well as a team member. Because you'll have to in the ER. Also, include items that show you have developed the skills necessary for the ER. (i.e. member of rapid response or code team, IV therapy skills, de-escalation of tense situations etc.)

Call the ER manager of the hospital you want to work for- I did that 13 years ago and got the 1 of 2 new grad orientation spots- I have always had better outcomes actually speaking to someone. Let them know you want it.

Have you considered speaking to your facility's ER manager and shadowing? This way, you are showing interest in ER and make sure you let them know you are interested in the ER.

Can you apply internally for an ED position? If they transition you - in the hospital where you are now - and get experience there for 6-12 months you might have a great shot applying at other hospitals.

Take TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course) or some Emergency medicine/Trauma type of course. Also talk to the ER manager and tell them what you would like to do. Maybe you could shadow them or be assigned in ER to learn what they do.

Having all your life support certifications is a big plus. You need to float to ER to get some hands on experience. If thats not possible,Id make an appointment to talk with the ER manager and let them know you want to work ER. Then you could eventually get your CEN. Good Luck. I worked 40 years in the ER and loved it. You never get bored!
