I plan to move California, but am having a hard time finding a New Grad Position in the Bay Area. I have an offer at Duke University in Durham. I don’t know if I should just work at Duke for a year or continue trying to find a job in the Bay? Advice?

I say if you're interested in California, keep looking and come on out. There are absolutely many positions out here, the demand for nurses (LPN's and RN's) is still great. I'm currently in the L.A. area and opportunities are plentiful. Check on Indeed, Career Builder, or try applying with some agencies. You can also look into some hospital postings in the area you might want to live in. I'm sure you'll be able to find something. Good Luck :-)

New grad positions are difficult to find in hospitals that have nursing school affiliations. Hospitals tend to hire them first since they are oriented to hospital policies. My suggestion is to take your current offer and work a year or more. You can easily find a job with better starting pay after. Secondly, try travel contract in the hospitals in the Bay area. This will give you firsthand experience and community for your permanent location. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Having lived in the Bay area and frequently travel to the area...I would go to Duke in a heart beat. You might find your quality of life will be better. But Cali is still good just make sure you squeeze them for every drop they got!
