How can I do my resume to get hired as new Rn and where is the best place to start

April 30th, 2024

You may want to put together a "functional" rather than professional resume to begin with. Functional resumes show how you have done jobs with similar skills or needed qualifications that you will also need in nursing. Example: To earn money for nursing school, I ran a womens' boutique with branches all over the USA. I was trustworthy (bonded for 1 million dollars per company policy), clean finger prints (company policy), managed time for myself and others, related well to people at various levels, chose new staff wisely, handled customer complaints in a satisfactory manner, ensured staff followed policy and ethics, and was creative in that I could institute local store activities and policies if they were in line with national, although different. All those things translated to what I needed to do professionally, but in nursing mode - manage angry patients, calm their relatives, be creative in my approach, be trustworthy in many ways, not just when being accountable for narcotics, be budget conscious for unit spending, etc. YOu want to show your future employer the skills you have to offer the institution and a particular unit until your nursing skills are well-practied and polished. Your school may offer resume help through the alumnae office. Where I taught, students could ALWAYS go back for help with a resume (even years later) to build their careers. See if that service is available to you. Good luck!
